Charitable Leisure Trading

This one-day course considers trading by leisure trusts in depth.  The requirements of charity law, tax, law, and regulations that impact upon leisure trusts arising from trading activities are covered.  It looks at when a trading company is needed and the detailed legal and financial management issues arising from trading.  Raise awareness of the requirements of regulators, in particular the Charity Commission and HM Revenue and Customs in respect of charitable trading.  Consider the implications of trading through the charity and/or through a subsidiary company, plan for and justify the introduction of basic internal procedures covering trading activities to ensure comliance with charity law and accounting practice.

Should you attend this course?

This course will suit you if you are a manager with responsibility for key operational or strategic decisions within your organisation.  This course will suit you if you are an accountant who needs to understand the implications of recent charity law and taxation in both accounts preparation and in giving strategic guidance and advice to senior managers and Boards.  Experience of charity management is not essential - you will benefit if you have recently joined the sector and if you have long experience of charity.

  • Setting up a Trading Company;
  • Financing a Trading Company;
  • Corporate tax law and charities;
  • Exemptions from income and corporation tax of charitable trading.

By the end of the course delegates will:
